Laying Fiber Optics

FAQS

What areas are covered by FiberLync?

We currently serve or are constructing areas of the Central Piedmont Region of Virginia.

Why is fiber better than DSL and Satellite Internet Service?

DSL uses copper phone lines to transmit data, fiber uses thin glass strands that carry light at “the speed of light.” This carries data quickly through fiber-optic cables and can achieve gigabit speeds up to 100x faster than DSL. Satellite internet requires a signal to travel from an orbiting satellite to equipment mounted on your building or home. Most satellite companies also have a “data cap” on the usage that restricts your bandwidth each month. Fiber does not rely on satellite connections and has no data caps. What does this mean for your home? You can enjoy fast high definition video streaming, and online gaming without having to worry about buffering or lag time.

I live on a private road. How can I get internet access to my home or business?

The owners/users of any private road will need to provide FiberLync with an easement, recordable in Circuit Court before FiberLync can install fiber in the ground along the route of the private road. Driveways are not considered private roads.

What about private roads in a subdivision with a Homeowners Association?

If your subdivision has an HOA that owns the right of way containing the private road, the HOA can pass a resolution authorizing the HOA President to sign an easement. FiberLync will provide the HOA with a template.
