Network Engineer
Role Overview
FiberLync is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Engineer to join our team and support the development, security, and reliability of our core ISP infrastructure. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the integrity, availability, and performance of network services that enable high-speed internet access and reliable communications for our customers.

Role Description

Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information and information systems.

Maintain and troubleshoot network firewalls, network servers, and other networked systems.

Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining servers and systems that support the core ISP network.

Provide formal technical details to communications on changes that will impact existing services.

Manage regular backup, storage, and retrieval of critical data.

Configure, assess, and maintain LAN/WAN equipment and related services.

Review, suggest, and implement network improvements to enhance redundancy, stability, and performance.

Perform change-management activities, including performing firmware and code upgrades to production systems.

Collaborate closely with third-party vendors to resolve problems or implement new services in support of the ISP network.

Design and deploy ISP L3 core and L2 access networks, including routers, firewalls, switches, and L2 access gear.

Provide advanced technical support for internal processes.

Keep up to date with technological changes which may have an impact on the network.

Provide technical mentoring to customer-facing technical staff.

Participate in Incident Response activities.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience
Required
-
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and two (2) years relevant experience supporting a large network infrastructure.

4 years of additional experience in related fields can be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Experience
-
5+ Years of experience working in a role planning, designing, implementing, administering, and troubleshooting LAN/WAN/WLAN environments.
-
5+ Years of experience with IP addressing, subnet masking, and/or routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, MPLS/VPN
-
3+ Years of experience in Network hardwire providers: Juniper, Cisco, Ubiquiti, Fortinet, ADTRAN, etc.
-
3+ Years of experience in UTM (unified Threat Management) such as: Fortinet, WatchGuard, Palo Alto, SonicWall, etc.
-
2+ Years of experience in Shells – CLI: PowerShell, Bash, Windows Terminal.

2+ Years of experience in Server administration supporting clients on a large-scale network.

Physical Requirements
This work requires light to moderate physical effort with occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reaching with hands and arms, and occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, and pushing or pulling; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed information to others; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles, and visual inspection of details; work has occasional exposure to outdoor weather and varying terrain and ground conditions through necessary fieldwork; work is generally performed in an indoor location (e.g. office, network shelter site, etc.).
Special Requirements

Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license or valid drivers’ license from another US state with the ability to obtain a Virginia driver’s license within the first 3 months of employment, and an acceptable driving record.

Have a form of reliable transportation.

May require periodic work beyond normal work schedule to include weekends and after hours.

Designated as Essential Staff.
