Our History
Community Driven, County Supported
On April 26, 2016, the Orange County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution authorizing the creation of the Orange County Broadband Authority. Shortly after, on June 8, 2016, the Authority was formally incorporated by the State Corporation Commission. The inaugural meeting was held on July 12, 2016, marking the official start of our work to bring comprehensive, community‑focused broadband solutions to Orange County.

The Orange County Broadband Authority, operating under the name FiberLync, was established to expand access to affordable, high‑quality broadband for local businesses, governmental agencies, and residents. From the beginning, our mission has been to bridge the digital divide and ensure that every corner of Orange County has access to reliable high‑speed internet.

Before the Authority was formed, more than 40% of Orange County lacked access to dependable broadband service. This gap created barriers to economic growth, education, public safety, and overall quality of life. Recognizing the critical need for modern connectivity, Orange County pursued grant funding specifically targeted at unserved areas. These communities became the first focus of our network‑building efforts.

FiberLync operates as part of Orange County government but maintains a separate, zero‑based budget. This means every dollar of revenue earned is reinvested directly back into network expansion and infrastructure improvements, ensuring that our progress continuously benefits the community we serve.
